Hard to believe it’s been 95 years since cannabis was first banned in Canada in 1923 by then Prime Minister William Mackenzie King, especially considering that at the time Prohibition had been repealed, the “Roaring 20s” were in full swing, people were excited about life and the economy was surging. No one knows exactly why cannabis was first made illegal in Canada, but that’s all history now.

On October 17, 2018 cannabis will become legal for recreational use in Canada.

Delta 9 is proud to be leading the way into the future with the opening of our first Delta 9 Cannabis Store at 1-827 Dakota Street on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 10 a.m. Store hours will be 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Monday to Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Don’t forget you’ll also be able to order online at Delta9.ca beginning at 12:01 AM on Wednesday Oct. 17th with citywide delivery beginning later that morning.

We’ll have plenty of highly trained and knowledgeable staff onsite to help you make informed decisions and answer any questions you might have on opening day, Wednesday, October 17, 2018, and every day thereafter.

RECREATIONAL CANNABIS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Cannabis becomes legal in Canada on October 17, 2018, but there are some important rules and regulations you will need to follow in Manitoba:

• You must be 19+ to buy or consume cannabis in Manitoba.
• You can only buy legal cannabis from licensed retailers.
• You can only smoke or vape cannabis in a private residence (which includes backyards).
• You cannot grow cannabis in your home.
• Manitobans age 19+ can have no more than 30 grams of dried cannabis on them in public.

Following cannabis legalization on October 17, 2018, the Liquor, Gaming & Cannabis Authority of Manitoba (LGCA) will be launching additional programs to educate Manitobans about strategies for safe and responsible cannabis use.

KEEPING YOUR STASH SAFE FROM YOUR KIDS

When cannabis becomes legal you’ll be able to keep it at home, which means you’ll also have to make sure your stash is out of the reach of children.

The best approach to storing your cannabis safely at home might be to think about it in the same way you would about alcohol or prescription medications. Physical storage options that will keep your cannabis safe from young enquiring minds include everything from childproof zip lock-style bags to lockable jars and boxes, but the conversation you have with your children about cannabis will be equally as important.

Children are naturally curious and the more you try to keep your stash a secret, the more likely your kids are going to want to investigate it. Education can help reduce that curiosity. A good way to explain that cannabis is for adults only is to talk about it as you would alcohol. It’s legal to have in your home, but it is not for children.

Educating yourself about the history of cannabis legalization in Canada; the risks associated with consuming cannabis at a young age; and the potential benefits of cannabis consumption for adults; will help you prepare for an intelligent and mutually beneficial conversation with your children.

An open and honest discussion about cannabis will let your children know that you value what they are thinking, feeling and experiencing, and not only will that help you in your quest to keep your stash safe, it could also open up the lines of communication for other topics that may arise as they develop and grow.

MANITOBA’S MEDICAL POT USERS CAN CONSUME OUTDOORS IN PUBLIC

The Manitoba government announced this past week that medical cannabis users will be allowed to smoke or vape in some public places, according to a series of new amendments to the Non-Smokers Health Protection and Vapour Product Act. Learn more here.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH: BUD RICE KRISPIE TREATS

Crispy-but-gooey Bud Rice Krispy Treats are easy to make, but there’s one secret. You have to melt the cannabutter slowly to make sure it doesn’t burn. And before you start creating, you’ll want to use this simple cannabutter dosage calculator from Kind Meds to determine the butter to cannabis ratio required for your individual needs.

INGREDIENTS

• ¼ cup of cannabutter
• 5 cups of rice krispies or cocoa rice krispies
• 4 cups of mini marshmallows

EQUIPMENT

• Large saucepan
• Spatula or wax paper
• 9 x 13 inch baking pan (or similar size)

METHOD

1. Slowly melt cannabutter in large saucepan over low heat.
2. Add mini marshmallows and stir until melted and well-blended.
3. Cook for 2 minutes longer, stirring constantly.
4. Remove from heat.
5. Add rice krispies and stir until completely coated in mixture.
6. Butter 9 x 13 inch pan.
7. Using a buttered spatula or wax paper, press the mixture evenly and firmly into the buttered pan.
8. Once cooled, cut into 2 x 2 inch squares.
9. Enjoy!

You can store these delicious stoner-morsels in the fridge for up to a week. Be sure to cover with plastic wrap or store in an airtight container.

Sensi Star is a heavy Indica dominant strain and known to have high THC. This strain typically has dense buds with light green features and light orange hairs that give off a sharp peppery aroma.
